Top Pitching Prospect of the Week
Luis Mateo, SP (A-) - 6.0 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Mateo (2011, international) is an atypical prospect. After contracts with both the Giants and Padres fell through in prior years due to questionable physicals and age misrepresentation, the Mets landed Mateo last spring for $150K. The 22-year-old righty spent the summer of 2011 putting together a K:BB ratio of 80:5 in 63 innings in the Dominican Summer League, and so far the success has transferred stateside. Through two starts, Mateo is leading the New York-Penn League in strikeouts and is 2nd in WHIP. Mateo's is a name to remember as a strong summer will make him a very interesting prospect heading into the 2013 season.
Honorable Mention:
Michael Fulmer, SP (A) - 6.0 IP, 0-1, 1.50 ERA, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
Tyler Pill, SP (A+) - 6.2 IP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Hansel Robles, SP (A-) - 10.2 IP, 1-1, 0.84 ERA, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K
Josh Edgin, RP (AAA) - 3.1 IP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Top Hitting Prospect of the Week
Josh Satin, 1B (AAA) - 31 PA, .577/.645/.846, 6 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 5 BB, 3 K
I acknowledge that calling the 27-year-old Satin (2008, 6th round) a "prospect" after he's already been DFA'd and gone unclaimed this summer might be stretching the term a bit. But a week like this one will put a little bit of sheen back on a guy. And with Vinny Rottino's departure, the right-handed hitting Satin may very well get another shot in the bigs with the Mets this year. Throughout his career, Satin's always been a guy who's old for the league but who puts up good numbers. In that respect, he reminds me of Justin Turner. Turner, while not a starter, is a useful Major League player. If things break right, I could see Satin in a similar type role with the Mets.

Travis Taijeron, OF (A+) - 29 PA, .304/.448/.696, 5 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 3 BB, 10 K, 1 SB
Phillip Evans, SS (A-) - 31 PA, .259/.355/.556, 2 R, 1 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB, 3 K
