Top Pitching Prospect of the Week
Erik Goeddel, SP (A+) - 9.0 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 10 K
It wasn't a great week for Mets pitching prospects, but Goeddel (2010 24th round, over slot) acquitted himself well in his first two starts since coming back from his second strained pitching shoulder in the past calendar year (he lost over two months to a shoulder strain last summer). The only negative in the 23-year-old righty's week was a bout of "effective wildness" yesterday morning (Goeddel walked 5 in 5 innings, but surrendered just 1 hit and didn't allow a run). All in all, encouraging results.
Honorable Mention:
Alex Panteliodis, SP (A) - 6.0 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Zack Wheeler, SP (AA) - 5.2 IP, 1-0, 1.59 ERA, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
Adam Kolarek, RP (A+) - 4.1 IP, 0-0, 1 SV, 0.00 ERA, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Adrian Rosario, RP (A+) - 5.0 IP, 0-0, 4 SV, 1.80 ERA, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Top Hitting Prospect of the Week
Cory Vaughn, OF (A+) - 33 PA, .345/.424/.793, 5 R, 1 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 3 BB, 8 K
Vaughn (2010 4th round) spent the week of his 23rd birthday smacking around Florida State League pitching. He now sits alone atop the FSL homerun and isolated slugging leaderboards and trails only Tigers' top prospect Nick Castellanos in slugging and OPS (min. 50 PA). That's particularly encouraging given how badly Vaughn struggled at this level in the second half of 2011.
Honorable Mention:
Travis Taijeron, CF (A) - 29 PA, .261/.414/.826, 7 R, 1 2B, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 5 BB, 8 K
T.J. Rivera, MI (A) - 31 PA, .333/.419/.704, 6 R, 1 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 SB
Reese Havens, 2B (AA) - 13 PA, .500/.615/.800, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 2 K
Cesar Puello, CF (A+) - 25 PA, .364/.440/.409, 3 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 0 BB, 3 HBP, 4 K, 4 SB
Top Non-Prospect of the Week
Bobby Scales, 2B (AAA) - 23 PA, .444/.565/.611, 4 R, 3 2B, 2 RBI, 5 BB, 2 K
