2012 Mets Prospect Report: Week 6 (5/10 - 5/16)

Top Pitching Prospect of the Week

Collin McHugh, SP (AA) - 7.0 IP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

McHugh (2008, 18th round) tossed 7 scoreless last night, scattering 6 singles and a walk to go with his 6 punchouts in a game the B-Mets would ultimately win 1-0 in walkoff fashion, adding yet another exhibit to his case for a promotion to AAA. Over his past 18 games in AA (17 of which were starts), McHugh is sitting at 11-2 with a 1.73 ERA. In 104.1 innings, he's surrendered 77 hits and issued 28 walks (1.01 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9) while picking up 107 strikeouts (9.2 K/9). And of the 416 batters he's faced over that stretch, he's given up just 3 homeruns. A promotion to Buffalo for McHugh could come at any time.

(McHugh also writes a fantastic blog about his experiences - A Day Older, A Day Wiser. Definitely worth checking out.)

Honorable Mention:

Jenrry Mejia, SP (A+) - 6.0 IP, 1-0, 1.50 ERA, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
Armando Rodriguez, RP (AA) - 4.0 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
Domingo Tapia, SP (A) - 5.2 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
Tyler Pill, SP (A) - 6.0 IP, 0-1, 3.00 ERA, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

Top Hitting Prospect of the Week

Matt Den Dekker, CF (AA) - 28 PA, .346/.393/.692, 7 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 SB

Den Dekker (2010 5th round) is a gifted defensive centerfielder who last year demonstrated serious pop with the bat. The power has persisted into 2012, but lately, Den Dekker seems to have begun addressing the biggest hole in his game. After striking out 29 times over 115 PA in the season's first 4 weeks, he's whiffed just 7 times in 52 PA over the past 2 weeks. We're still deep in small sample size territory here, but reigning in the strikeouts would provide a huge boost to his stock as a prospect. With Kirk Nieuwenhuis's big league call-up lasting longer than anyone expected and showing no signs of ending any time soon, Den Dekker may be roaming center in Buffalo before long.

Honorable Mention:

Wilmer Flores, 3B (A+) - 24 PA, .333/.417/.524, 4 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 2 K
Daniel Muno, 2B (A+) - 26 PA, .348/.400/.652, 4 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 SB
Cesar Puello, CF (A+) - 19 PA, .313/.389/.688, 4 R, 3 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 SB
Dustin Lawley, OF (A) - 27 PA, .375/.444/.583, 7 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 SB

Top Non-Prospect of the Week

Valentino Pascucci, RF/1B (AAA) - 30 PA, .385/.467/.692, 5 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB, 8 K
