November 23 - Deadline to offer arbitration to departing Type A or B free agents. Jose Reyes is a Type A free agent, he's the only Mets free agent that will bring back draft compensation, and he will definitely be offered arbitration.
December 7 - Deadline for free agents who were offered arbitration to accept. Since there's no chance Reyes accepts arbitration, this deadline bears watching only because it will set the order of sandwich picks. Sandwich round compensation is based on the reverse standings, with Type A free agents handled first, then Type B free agents. Here's the list of players who would rank ahead of Reyes, and the overall pick they would currently provide. Everyone on this list was offered arbitration, but anyone on this list who re-signs with his former team will improve the sandwich round compensation pick the Mets would get for Reyes.
32. Michael Cuddyer, Twins
33. Heath Bell, Padres
34. Josh Willingham, Athletics
35. Jose Reyes, Mets
December 8 - Rule 5 Draft
December 12 - Deadline to tender contracts for the 2012 season. Players likeliest to be non-tendered are those eligible for arbitration and those not yet eligible for arbitration who accrued a significant amount of Major League service time in the prior year and who might not factor into the future (since minor league salary floors are based partly off of the prior year's total compensation).
Arbitration Eligible Mets: Manny Acosta, Ronny Paulino, Mike Pelfrey, Ramon Ramirez, Andres Torres
Pre-Arb Mets who could potentially be non-tendered: Mike Baxter, Mike Nickeas
January 5 - Start of arbitration filing period
January 15 - End of arbitration filing period
February 1 - Start of arbitration hearings
February 20 - The four most beautiful words in the English language: Pitchers and catchers report.
